Casablanca
Welcome to a world of smoke filled bars, espionage, colorful characters, betrayal, and love.
There is no film comparable in terms of great lines and intriguing characters. The script is so powerful that lines such as "Round up the usual suspects" have become part of our vernacular.
Above all, though, it is simply a great story wonderfully acted. Indeed, the plot has so many subtexts that it appeals to hard core political junkies and fans of tear jerking love stories. From its comments on America's lack of involvement in WWII to the amazingly witty dialogues between Louis and Rick, it is about as much fun as a movie can be. I never fail to get a chill during the airport scene, and I always am impressed by Rick's selflessness. Hollywood has never been better.
