Aliens
It's virtually a perfect film
James Cameron has made three truly great films. Two of which are on the AFI ballot. The third is nowhere to be found. Why?
I wish I knew why Aliens wasn't being considered for the 100 Greatest Films list. It's practically perfect. The movie is still the most intense film you can ever sit through. It's got top-notch acting by some very underrated stars, top-notch writing and directing by James Cameron himself. Entertainment Weekly put Aliens pretty high on their list of the 100 Greatest Films Ever Made. I think Aliens is one of the very few perfect films. I think people can't believe or they don't want to believe that this sequel to Ridley Scott's visionary B-movie classic, Alien is a much more perfect film in every way.
There are other great reasons why Aliens should be on this list. Vasquez was one of the first of many strong military women portrayed on film. It's been said that the role of Bishop influenced sci-fi maestro, Gene Roddenberry to make his Data character in the next generation of Star Trek.
It's not cheesy, it's not sappy, it's not sentimental, it's timeless. It's the best science-fiction film, the best monster movie in many years, and it's certainly one of the greatest action films ever made. It definitely belongs on the 100 Greatest list.
Sigourney Weaver in the leading role of Ellen Ripley got an Oscar nod for her stronger-than-nails action heroine. AFI even put her in Aliens at #8 on their Greatest Heroes list. I mean, come on.
