AFI DIGITAL CONTENT LAB MENTOR APPLICATION

The AFI Digital Content Lab produces high-profile digital media prototypes that set a standard for innovation and real-world viability. The prototypes are conceived and built by collaborative teams of working professionals—referred to as mentors—who donate their time and efforts for a variety of reasons:

  • public acknowledgment of creative and technical expertise;
  • cultivation of relationships with decision makers at top media companies;
  • early exposure to trends and technologies; and
  • the opportunity to explore cutting-edge ideas and solutions in an open and convivial environment.

Mentors are drawn from a variety of disciplines—design, production, technology and business strategy, among them. They are invited to participate on a given team according to their expertise, enthusiasm, and availability. Prototype projects generally span a six month period, with three face-to-face meetings (orientation, a mid-term design roundtable, and a public premiere of the prototype) and hour-long weekly phone calls throughout the development period. Mentors who commit to a project are expected to attend all conference calls and the three face-to-face meetings. In addition, there are occasional three-month projects that explore concepts or business strategies. These generally require attendance at two face-to-face events (orientation and final presentation) and participation in hour-long weekly phone calls throughout the development period.

Mentors may be individuals or representatives of a company. All mentors contribute knowledge learned in real-world scenarios. Company mentors generally assign several employees as team members, commit to production, and, where appropriate, provide access to digital media assets and necessary software and hardware.

There is no fee to apply. Just complete the application below and hit the "Submit" button at the end to ensure delivery.
